PROBLEM needs to be tackled in the same way the ‘scourge of polio’ was fought a century ago, according to a leading social researcher.
And it is not good enough for society to deal with the addiction by simply encouraging individuals to “gamble responsibly”, said Professor Alan Hayes, head of the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
